At a time when many other colleges are turning toward MOOCs, OU is headed the opposite direction with HIST 1483 and 1493, the American history survey required of every OU undergrad. With the enthusiastic encouragement of OU President David Boren, these classes will now expose students to senior faculty and provide them with small, graduate student-lead discussion sections. But these new courses aren’t completely old school: The History Department has collaborated with OU’s Center for Teaching Excellence to create a series of online tools that will enhance students’ ability to research and write. To learn more about why we are so excited about American History 2.0, take a look at Exploring US History, the website we’ve developed for HIST 1483 and 1493.
